Alice de Colville was the daughter of Sir Roger de Colville, Lord of Colville, and Margaret/Margery de Braose.

Margaret Gernon b abt 1314, of Bakewell, Derbyshire, and East Thorpe, Cambridgeshire, England. She md Sir Geoffrey de Gresley abt 1328, son of Sir Peter de Gresley and Joan de Stafford.


NOTES:
a. Often described as Matthew of Downham, his wife, Hodierna, was the sister and heir to her brother, William de Sackville.

b. He received Bakewell in Derbyshire from Richard I.

c. Granted East Thorpe and Birch by King John. He founded Lees Priory in 1230, and acquired Theydon Girnon in 1207.

d. He was Marshal of the King's Household. Usually accredited, from Morant's Essex as marrying Beatrix de Theydon, but Weis' Ancestral Roots, seventh edition, states that his wife's name is not known, and cites Chester of Chicheley.

e. He was lord of the manors of East Thorpe and Great Birch in Cambridgeshire. He married, secondly, Hawise, the sister and coheir of Nicholas de Tregoz of Tolleshunt.

f. Son and heir, stated to be aged 24 in 1274. The name of his wife is not known.

g. Stated to be aged 30-plus in 1327, he was first married very young to Isabel Bigot, who d s.p. at the age of 13 in 1311. His second wife, Alice de Colville, widow of Guy Gobaud, was the coheir in her issue of Bytham in Lincolnshire. Sir John Gernon married thirdly, Margaret, daughter and heir of Sir John de Wygeton, Knight.
