NOTES:
a. John de Bellew (or de Bella-Aqua) was summoned to attend the King at Shrewsbury, 28 Jun 1283 by which writ was created an hereditary peerage, and to attend the King wheresoever he should be. He was again summoned 16 Dec 1295 to be at Newcastle with horse and arms the following March. In right of his wife, Laderina de Brus, he held Kentmere in Kendal. He died 1301, his heirs being (1) Nicholas, son of Miles Stapleton, by Sibyl, his eldest daughter, and (2) Joan, his second daughter and wife of Aucher FitzHenry.
