NOTES:
a. The early lineage of this Champernoun family as reported in Ancestral Roots has since undergone some major revisions. Katherine Keats-Rohan's monumental Domesday series reports that Jordan de Champernoun and Mabira/Mabel de Caen had three sons, Jordan, Richard, and William, but not, as Ancestral Roots indicated, a son named Henry. Additionally, Mabira is now thought to be a granddaughter, not daughter (as reported in AR), of Robert de Caen (through his son, Robert, who married Hawise de Reviers ca 1147), making the chronology impossible that Henry was of any lineal descent from Jordan (also noted is that Complete Peerage states that the daughter of Robert de Caen and Maud/Mabel Fitz Hamon, Mabel, married Ranulph de Gernons). It seems much more likely that Henry, first of the line above, was perhaps a brother of Jordan de Champernoun. Therefore, while most agree that Henry de Champernoun is of the same family as Jordan de Champernoun, the line for the latter is treated separately in this database.

b. While she is shown as Rohese de Tracy in Ancestral Roots, there is no concrete proof of this and Keats-Rohan's work calls her simply "Rohese." There were dealings between the Tracy and Champernoun families in this period, but explicit proof that Rohese was a Tracy is still lacking.
