James Andrews [b] b 1625, Saco, York, ME, d 5 May 1704, ME. He md [1] Dorcas Mitton abt 1654, daughter of Michael Mitton, Gent., and Elizabeth Cleeve. He md [2] Margaret Phipps 6 Aug 1696, Boston, Suffolk, MA. Dorcas Mitton was b abt 1638, d bef Aug 1696.

James Andrews [c] b abt 1655, of Falmouth, Cumberland, ME, and Boston, Suffolk, MA. The identity of his wife is not known.
Only child of James Andrews was:

Jemima Andrews [d] b 1675, of Falmouth, Cumberland, ME and Boston, Suffolk, MA, d 9 Dec 1706/07. She md Benjamin Snelling 29 Jan 1694/95, Boston, Suffolk, MA, son of John Snelling and Sarah.


a. He arrived on the Increase 14 Apr 1635, shown as age 37, with wife Jane, age 30, children Jane, age 3, and Elizabeth, age 2, and a servant, Elen Lougie. Son James was born later that year in Saco. Samuel is said to have "quickly went to Biddeford, built a house, and died". His widow, Jane, soon remarried Arthur Mackworth. Her will was written 20 May 1676, and probated in Boston 24 Oct following.

b. A yeoman and mariner, he was "long the leading citizen of Falmouth Foreside." He was a juryman 1666 and 1674, and served on the grand jury in 1675. First wife Dorcas died sometime before 6 Aug 1696, the date on which he secondly married Margaret (Phipps) Halsey. All children were by his first marriage. His will was dated 4 Jan 1698/99. He was aged 79 years at his death.

c. Very little survives about the life of James Andrews. Neither the name of his wife, nor the date of his death is known, only that he left one child, Jemima.

d. Her father died young, and presumably her mother (whose identity is not known) also, and Jemima was cared for by her grandfather, who gave her a tract of 113 acres, near Casco Bay, in Falmouth, Maine:

"Benjamin Snelling, Boston, Blockmaker, in behalf of his wife Jemmiah Snelling Grand Daughter of James Andrews of Boston in ye County of Suffolk Deed, Claims a Certain Tract or parcell of Land lying & being at the Muscle (Mussel) Cove in Falmouth wthin ye Province of Main Containing one hundred and Thirteen Acres of uplands four acres being Marsh as by a Certain Draught to ye Deed thereof from sd Andros to his Grand Daughter sd Jemmiah Snelling annexed, wth all bridges ways Springs Rivers &c to sd Tract of Land belonging as pr ye Deed y(t?) of to his sd Grand Daughter Jemmiah Snelling under his hand and Seal Dated Janury 4th, 1698-9---Acknowledged before Mr. Justice (Samuel) Sewall Janury 6th 1698-9."
